Services We Offer at the Vermont Icelandic Horse Farm
Sales
We seek to offer only high-quality horses, both domestic and imported suited to the individual buyer, and to increase awareness of the special qualities unique to the Icelandic Horse. They have excellent characters, are easy to work with and very well gaited. This is a very important consideration in the US, where there are few trainers experienced and skilled in training Icelandic horses for the average rider to work with, train, and enjoy. Horses remaining at the Vermont Icelandic Horse Farm continue their training, and as they can handle more, they are taught to respond to exercises such as side passing, stopping, backing up, and even long-reining.
As long as the horse remains here it will continued to be trained and during this time we take special care to introduce the horse to all it may encounter in its new environment. We believe that this type of training program leads to horses which are a pleasure to own: adaptable, well-educated, friendly and people-oriented.
TRAINING
Here at the Vermont Icelandic Horse Farm we believe it is important to utilize many training methods in order to bring out the best in your horse. We combine training methods in order to advance towards close to perfect performance for a specific goal chosen for the horse and rider. Whether you want to compete with your horse or just enjoy the trail or both we approach this through a systematic program producing healthy, flexible, relaxed horses. We can start your young horse, offer basic and gait training and if your horse just needs a tune up we can do that as well.
BOARDING
We offer boarding for Icelandic Horses. We have both indoor and outdoor board available and most of the time this depends on the needs of the individual horse.
Our staff is dedicated to the well being and health of each horse and we have the services of very good veterinarians to help with all your horses needs. Each horse is treated as one of our own and given the time and energy they deserve.
Outdoor Board:
Each horse has access to shelter in the form of a spacious shed which we do not over crowd allowing each horse to seek shelter if they choose to do so. Most of our horses do stay outside and enjoy a lifestyle very much the same as if they were in Iceland. They have large paddocks and huge fields and live in an Integrated herd situation. Each shed has slow feeder hay bags, access to salt and minerals at all times and of course a constant water source.
Inside Board
If your horse has to come inside at night it is not a problem. They are brought inside in the late afternoon and fed inside the cozy barn. In the morning they go out for hay in a large paddock with other horses and then are turned out in large fields for the rest of the day. Each stall, paddock and field has access to salt and minerals at all times and of course a water source.
In addition, our boarders have access to quiet dirt roads as well as trails. We also have an oval riding track with a large riding ring in the center.
Our staff is a small group of people with extensive knowledge of the Icelandic Horse and we are happy to help you with any of your needs concerning your horse.
LESSONS
Our lesson program offers private and semi private lessons to all experience levels and ages. We believe it is important to share our knowledge of good horsemanship with anyone interested in the wonderful Icelandic Horse. Whether you are just starting out or want to compete, we can help you get the education you are looking for. Our focus is to teach good horsemanship, applicable to all horse breeds, and advance specific Icelandic riding skills.
Our riding school horses are both talented and tolerant . The have been helping us teach all levels of riders for most of their lives and are very good at it. They have been selected for their temperaments, gaits and willingness to work with their riders.
TACK FOR SALE
We do offer tack and equipment for sale for the Icelandic Horse, we have access to both New and Used. We are representative dealers for both Ástund and Stübben of North America and can help you with whatever tack and equipment you need for yourself and your horse.
